The key to creating a home office is to make sure it’s a calm environment that encourages productivity. Whether your current home office is stuffy, or you’re extending or renovating your home to add a new one, we’ve found some great tips on making sure your home office is working for you.

The first step to creating a productive environment is to remove the clutter from your workspace. Whether you have a dedicated room, or just a small space for your home office area, make sure it’s as neat as possible. Having a clear workspace can help you clear your head and focus on the things that are important.

#2 Pick your colour

Colour psychology plays a huge part in how our brains function—when picking an accent colour for your home office, consider what type of role you’re in. If you’re in a creative role, you may find that purple is best for you as it stimulates synaptic functions and relieves stress. Generally, green is a great colour for most workspaces as it causes the least eye strain and helps to create a calming environment.

#3 Light it up

Having sufficient lighting is not only good for your eye health, but will also help you stay productive for longer throughout the day. Make sure your workspace is well-lit, preferably with natural light. Be sure to have plenty of bright lighting for evening work or to compensate if there is a lack of windows.

#4 Air flow

Just as beneficial as sufficient lighting, having a good amount of air flow in your workspace means you’ll be getting more oxygen to your brain. More oxygen means more productivity, so crack open a window or make sure the air in the room is circulated.

#5 Add plants
